Brushless Motor Mounts for Prometheus

There are several factors that make up a good mount for brushless motors. You want a strong mount that can hold up to the stresses and vibrations of high rpm motors flinging foam projectiles through them. Also, brushless motors can operate at temperatures that exceed the softening point of some plastics and can warp or melt PLA mounts under extreme conditions. Our motor mounts are CNC machined from 6061 T6 aluminum for the ultimate precision.

Description

Aluminum motor mounts are far superior to those made from plastic for several reasons. The greatest advantage is to have a firm and secure mounting surface so the motors can be mounted for high load (crush) applications. A ridged surface reduces vibrations caused by any in-balance in the flywheels and provides an unbiased base so the motor’s power can fully be transferred into propelling the dart/ball.

An aluminum mount also acts as a heat sink, drawing power robbing heat away from the motors and keeping them cooler under heavier loads. Unlike plastic, aluminum will not bend, warp, or melt under any conditions that a brushless motor can dish out. So, no worries that heat will start to deform the mount over time. Our aluminum motor mounts are CNC machined from 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminum and they easily attach onto the existing framework of the Prometheus using existing screw holes.

Changing the motor’s center to center distance (or Ball Crush) has one of the biggest effects on projectile speed other than motor size. So, if you want shoot darts/balls faster, here is where you can do it. But understand that decreasing the distance between the motors will increase the load on them, so make sure your Electronic Speed Controller and battery is rated for the higher load.

These motor mounts are specifically designed for the Prometheus gun and will not fit any other application without modifications. The motor mounts are designed for our brushless motors and flywheels. Be sure to check the measurements of all components for a complete setup.

How to choose the proper motor mount. First, you want to choose a flywheel size/design, next a motor design and finally a motor mount. All three must work together with each other to achieve an overall goal. For example, a Prometheus build, we recommend our 50mm flywheel with either a X2212 motor or a X2216 motor. Each mount is designed to fit with the height of each motor. So be sure to choose the proper motor height so that the flywheels line up with the balls. Once you have chosen these two components the rest is easy. Just choose the amount of ball crush you want, (Stock, High, or Custom) and you are good to go.

If you need a custom mount for the Prometheus, just choose custom for all 2 drop boxes and send us email for your specifications.

NOTE: You will need to remove both stock end bells to allow air to circulate through the brushless motors. If you do not, you will surely damage the motors in a short time. Depending on the motor mount design you choose you will also have to remove or cut other existing framework on the Prometheus to allow clearance for the flywheels.
